THE BIRD WHICH FLIES THE HIGHEST Rüppell's Vulture
THE BIRD WHICH FLIES THE HIGHEST
Rüppell's Vulture (Gyps rueppellii) is capable of flying at 11 300 metres. The record has been approved during a collision with a commercial aircraft over Abidjan in Côte d'Ivoire. One of the engines of the aircraft was destroyed upon impact. It may be possible that it flies even higher, since drivers of airliner, wide-bodied long-haul, say having seen flying over their device 12 000 metres.
Rüppell's Vulture adult measures about one meter long and a wingspan of 2.6 m and a weight of 7 to 9 kg. He lives in Central Africa (Ethiopia, Sudan, Tanzania, Guinea).
